First test landing at the new Western Sydney International Airport

Last Updated on: 28th October 2025, 08:13 pm

The new Western Sydney International Airport had been under construction since 2018, and today, the first jet plane landed in a test operation on the first of two days.

This new airport will be the second international airport for Sydney, Australia, and to be named Nancy-Bird Walton. The existing Sydney airport is called Kingsford Smith. The Australian government is hoping that airlines will start using the new airport, however, its popularity is yet to be seen, since a direct train line is yet to be built, making it a long trip from the new airport to the CBD for travellers.

The airport is due to open in 2026. The provisional IATA code for the new Western Sydney International Airport is WSI.
